Old Stage Park Clean-up
Posted by Mara 06/01/2009
May 23rd was the first clean-up day held at the Old Stage Park. The FAC received strong support from both the City of Cave Junction as well as the Rotary Club. The event was organized through a partnership with S.O.L.V. (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism), and was scheduled as part of the May Take Care of Oregon Days.
With the help of volunteers, we were able to remove an estimated 1200 lbs of invasive weeds and offensive debris left by litterers. Good job volunteers and THANK YOU for your support!!
The FAC is spearheading the drive to restore the 40 acre parcel locally known as the Old Stage Park. Click HERE for more information.
Pictures of the clean-up can be found HERE.
Volunteer Tree Planting Day
Posted 04/16/2009
February 28th was our 17th annual Volunteer Tree Planting Day. That morning about 138 members of our community got together and helped plant over 3,000 trees on private properties located in the Illinois River Basin. After all the seedlings were planted, volunteers returned to the lower Forest Service compound and enjoyed a large buffet-style lunch provided by local businesses and members of the community.
This year there were seven local youth groups that benefited from the 25 cent a tree program on volunteer day. Youth groups that participated on volunteer day were paid 25 cents for every tree their group planted through an ongoing partnership between the Illinois Valley Soil and Water Conservation District and the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
More information about our Tree Planting Project can be found HERE.
